Relays act as the “decision-making” component in a protection system, determining when a fault exists and coordinating the response. Circuit Breakers: Circuit breakers are the “execution units” that physically disconnect the electrical circuit when a fault occurs. They can interrupt current flow, switch loads under normal conditions, and extinguish arcs to prevent damage . Unlike relays, circuit breakers directly handle the high current and are designed to be reset after tripping, unlike fuses which must be replaced .How They Work TogetherIn a typical power system, relays and circuit breakers operate in coordination.
