Wiring Example of a Distribution Box

A typical single-phase distribution box connects the main supply to a main MCB, then to an RCCB, and finally distributes power to individual single-pole MCBs for sub-circuits, with neutral and earth properly linked.Components and LayoutMain MCB (Double Pole): Acts as the main switch, usually rated 63A for domestic installations. The incoming phase and neutral wires from the energy meter are connected here. When turned on, it supplies power to the RCCB and downstream MCBs .RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker): Provides protection against leakage currents, electrical shocks, and insulation faults. Typically rated 30mA for domestic use. The output of the main MCB connects to the RCCB input, and the RCCB output feeds the sub-circuit MCBs .Single-Pole MCBs: These control individual sub-circuits such as lighting, sockets, or appliances. Each MCB output connects to its respective load. For special high-power loads, double-pole MCBs may be used .Neutral Link: Distributes the neutral wire to all sub-circuits. Each load's neutral connects here to maintain a common return path .Earth Link: All earth wires from the supply and loads are connected to this terminal, which is linked to the building's grounding system for safety .Wiring FlowIncoming Supply → Main MCB → RCCB → Sub-Circuit MCBs → LoadsNeutral wires from the supply pass through the neutral link to each MCB output.Earth wires are connected to the earth link for grounding.Example Sub-CircuitsLighting circuits: 5–8 points per MCB, typically 6–10A.Socket outlets: 13A radial circuits, each protected by a 16–20A MCB.High-power appliances (AC, water heater): 16–20A or double-pole MCBs .Safety ConsiderationsAlways turn off the main supply before wiring.Use correct wire sizes according to load (e.g., 16mm² for 60A main feeder).Ensure proper earthing to prevent electric shock.Follow local electrical codes (NEC, IEC, or national standards) for installation . For visual guidance, detailed wiring diagrams are available online showing the exact connections of MCBs, RCCBs, neutral, and earth links for single-phase distribution boxes .
